CROCTINO and PAMRINO

The neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) image repository (NOIR) infrastructure is currently developed at the DCC, University of Utah, in collaboration with this project’s investigators. In the future, NOIR is supposed to serve as imaging repository and hub for prospective imaging studies in NMO.

This project will complement the NOIR project by conducting two retrospective imaging studies comprising the two most important imaging modalities in NMOSD: 1) optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the CROCTINO study and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the PAMRINO study.

CROCTINO: The Collaborative Retrospective Study on retinal OCT in Neuromyelitis Optica (CROCTINO) will collect OCT data from NMOSD patients and will analyze retinal damage profiles in eyes after and without previous optic neuritis.

PAMRINO: The Parallel Study on MRI in Neuromyelitis Optica (PAMRINO) will collect MRI data from NMOSD patients and investigate T2w lesion profiles in NMOSD.

The collected datasets from collaborators around the world will comprise the largest collection of disease-specific imaging data in NMOSD to date.

CROCTINO

Goal

To investigate retinal changes in NMOSD and related disorders in a large multicenter cohort.

Study design

  • Retrospective (Data from existing databases)
  • Patients with NMOSD or MOG-IgG related ON/Myelitis or healthy controls
  • Macular and RNFL scans from Spectralis or Cirrus OCT
  • Minimal dataset: OCT, visual acuity, and basic demographic/clinical data from one visit
  • Optional: Longitudinal data, low contrast letter acuity, visual fields, VEP

Scientific questions

  • Scan quality and relation to disease severity
  • Applicability of different point estimates
  • Damage patterns in different NMOSD forms
  • Non-optic neuritis associated changes
  • Intraretinal changes
  • Determinants of visual function loss

How can I participate in CROCTINO?

PAMRINO

Goal

To investigate MRI changes in NMOSD and related disorders in a large multicenter cohort.

Study design

  • Retrospective (Data from existing databases)
  • Patients with NMOSD or MOG-IgG related ON/Myelitis or healthy controls
  • Assessment of MR hardware and sequences
  • Minimal dataset: MRI, and basic demographic/clinical data from one visit (shared with CROCTINO)
  • Optional: Longitudinal data
  • MRI data may be submitted along with CROCTINO

Scientific questions

  • Scan quality and relation to disease severity
  • Lesions, Brain Atrophy and Spinal Cord Atrophy
  • Damage patterns in different NMOSD forms
  • Define the requirements for prospective data collection and analysis.

How can I participate in PAMRINO?

  • The PAMRINO manual will be available soon from our website.
  • Contact us via email or phone if you are interested to participate.
